If you've ever been in the hospital, you know that all you think about is going home. That is great motivation for progress in the hospital, but there are important steps to be addressed before your discharge. You may need to have your home environment modified to meet your needs as you recover. Working with a physical or occupational therapist can make the transition smooth and safe.
Modifications can be as simple as a raised toilet seat, bath bench, hand-held shower head, grab bars, bedside commode, night lights, removal of scatter rugs, and improved lighting. Plan ahead. Taking care of these items in advance is important to your safety and comfort.
