Avoid Doctor Office Amnesia
Have you ever walked out of your Doctor's office and realized you forgot to ask some questions or you can’t remember what the Doctor suggested? This is very common. Dr. Michael Johnson, an Internal Medicine Doctor in Sherwood, Oregon, writes down a summary of each visit for his patients to take home. Below are some hints to help avoid “Doctor's Office amnesia”.

Helpful Hints
  • Make a list of ALL the medications you are currently taking and name of the prescribing Doctor. Include over-the-counter remedies as well as herbal supplements.
  • Make a list of questions to ask the Doctor.
  • Make a list of recent changes to your health status, any new problems, and details such as blood pressures, temperatures, blood sugars, etc.
  • Take a trusted friend or family member with you to the Doctor.
  • At the end of your appointment you should leave with an updated list of your medications and an action plan that you understand. Don’t be afraid to slow down and write notes if needed.
